Millennium Academy of Irish Dance & Music is excited to bring to Columbus an annual holiday tradition, The Celtic Nutcracker. Returning with rave reviews for it's fifth year, The Celtic Nutcracker will be performed at The Lincoln Theatre in Downtown Columbus on Saturday, December 7th, 2019 with shows at 2:00pm and 6:00pm.
The Celtic Nutcracker retells the classic Nutcracker tale through Irish dance and music, with original choreography by Muireann Ni Chiara, Millennium Academy's founder and director. Muireann came to the United States from Tipperary, Ireland in 1999 to teach Irish dance as a guest professor in the World Dance Program at Denison University, in Granville, Ohio. She founded Millennium Academy of Irish Dance & Music in 2001, and has become well known in central Ohio for her innovative choreographies.
In The Celtic Nutcracker, audiences will follow Ciara on her magical journey through Ireland, which begins when her nutcracker, given as a gift by her magical uncle, turns into the soldier prince of her dreams one very special Christmas Eve. In this production, there are no sugar plum fairies. Instead, Ciara joins a traditional dancing at the crossroad in a small Irish village, encounters forest fairies, and is enchanted by the mythological Children of Lir. Those in attendance are sure to enjoy the precision of the rhythmic beats and graceful movements displayed by the talented Irish dancers of Millennium Academy. The Celtic Nutcracker promises to be a wonderful holiday treat for young and old.
